Once you have confirmed and payed your booking with us – let us know when you will be arriving in gorgeous Paraty and we will be at the bus station to greet you. In case of delays or changes in timetables, you are responsible to inform Misti Chill Hostel about the new arrival time. In case you haven’t informed our staff about the delay or change Misti Chill will not be held responsible for the transfer and you have to either walk or take a taxi ( at your own cost) to the hostel. Upon your arrival in Paraty, you can walk to Misti Chill from the bus station (10 min walk).Check out the map below or ask someone at the bus station, they’ll point you in the right direction! (Or call Melissa on her mobile phone: (0)24 8832 0121) Walking: Past the Historic Center towards the Sea, cross the Pedestrians Bridge over the Canal. Walk towards the beach and we are there! Right in front of the Beach. (some people still knows us as "Pousada Internacional" as this is the old name) Driving: After the roundabout going into town, turn left after the arch, drive straight 300 meters, past the Bridge over the canal and turn right all the way to the end, drive around the Plaza until you get to the Beach, you’ll turn left by the beach and you will find us 100 meters after. The building in the corner (ex-Pousada Internacional). Ask for directions "Praia do Pontal". By Taxi: Taxis in Paraty charge a flat rate of R$15 for any ride regardless of the distance. Paraty has become a popular tourist area in recent years, renowned for the beauty of the town and the magnificence of the coast and mountains in the region. The Portuguese colonial and Brazilian Imperial architecture has been perfectly preserved and the many buildings have been converted into eclectic and artsy shops and restaurants. Automobile traffic is forbidden inside the city in order to preserve the tranquil ambience. The quaint historic village is surrounded by beaches and national parks – offering tourists a panoply of activities to enjoy. Paraty has become a major international destination for Brazilian as well as international tourists seeking sunshine and spectacular beaches (including snorkeling and scuba). Paraty Events Calendar Paraty Carnaval If you're looking for an alternative to the massive Rio de Janeiro Carnival, head down the coast to the old colonial town of Paraty. It is a more traditional party, is less crowded and set in a utopian environment. Like the bigger carnivals, Parati's celebrations play on fantasies, but it is more akin to the Venice Carnival in Italy or the Carnaval de Olinda in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco. It includes masked blocos, or carnival groups, along with children and adults in fancy dress and effigies of famous personalities. Carnival costume allows the people to be someone or something else for a couple of days, escaping from everyday life into the world of fantasy, be it black or white, king or pauper. They often aim (harmlessly) to scare the passers-by with skulls and deformed papier machê heads. Although most of the celebrations take place in the historic district of Parati, there are plenty of other events on the local beaches, including the Bloco de Lama, which traditionally starts from the Praia do Jabaquara before continuing around the town. This group represents a prehistoric tribe whose objective is to frighten off evil spirits.
